Frequently asked questions

Do I need a mass gainer or just more food?
Food first. A mass gainer is a convenience product for people who genuinely cannot eat enough — usually very lean, fast-metabolism trainees or those with limited appetite. If you can add a meal, add the meal. If you cannot, a gainer is a practical way to add several hundred calories without a full sitting.
What is the difference between a mass gainer and performance carbs?
A mass gainer is protein plus carbohydrate plus fat, built to add total daily calories. Performance carbs — Karbolyn, Carb X, cream of rice — are carbohydrate only, used around training to fuel a session or refill glycogen after it. Different jobs.
When should I take a mass gainer?
Whenever it fits the calorie gap, which for most people is between meals or after training. There is no window that makes a gainer work better; total daily intake decides the outcome.
Will a mass gainer make me fat?
It can, because it is a calorie-dense product and a surplus that is too large adds fat as well as muscle. A surplus of roughly 250 to 500 kilocalories a day is enough for muscle gain in most trainees. Use a gainer to reach that number, not to overshoot it.
Is cream of rice better than oats?
Not nutritionally — both are starch. Cream of rice digests faster and sits lighter, which is why people use it close to training or when appetite is poor. Oats are higher in fibre and better further from a session.
